Today was a classic reminder that the mountains set the rules. I had my heart set on tackling the Mount Murray Track and headed into the Buckland Valley, ready for the climb to the summit. But, as nature (or the park rangers) would have it, the track was closed.
Instead of letting it spoil the day, I pivoted and headed into Mount Buffalo National Park to chase some waterfalls. I spent the morning exploring the Eurobin Falls and the Ladies Bath Falls. After hiking around the cascades, I couldn’t resist the temptation of that crystal-clear water at Ladies Bath. I took the plunge for a quick dip—and “refreshing” is probably an understatement! It was ice-cold and absolutely invigorating. There’s nothing like mountain water to make you feel alive.
To warm back up in the evening, I headed into town to check out the Bright Brewery. If you’re ever in the area, this place is a must. The beers are excellent, the food is top-tier, and the atmosphere is even better. I ended up having some great conversations with locals and fellow travelers alike—it’s the kind of spot where you walk in a stranger and leave with a few new stories.
Even though I didn’t reach the top of Mount Murray, a day of waterfalls and craft beer is a pretty perfect backup plan.
