As luck would have it, my timing in Bright was spot on. I happened to be in town for the third Saturday of the month, which meant one thing: the local market was in full swing!
I spent the morning wandering through the stalls, and what I loved most was the “strictly local” vibe. Everything on offer—from the artisan crafts to the fresh produce—comes directly from the region. It’s the perfect way to get a real taste of the high country and support the makers who call this beautiful valley home.
After filling my bags (and probably eating a bit too much), I headed off to walk it all off on the Canyon Walk along the Ovens River. This trail is more than just a scenic stroll; it’s like walking through a living history book. As the path follows the river, you can still see the physical traces left behind by the gold diggers from the 1860s.
It’s a bit surreal to see how the landscape was reshaped during the gold rush era, with the remnants of their work still carved into the earth. The loop itself is a nice, easy walk—nothing too strenuous, but a great way to connect with the heritage of the town while listening to the water rush past.
Bright has a way of making you want to slow down and stay just a little bit longer.
Next stop: Leaving the valley behind and climbing higher into the peaks!
