    • Traded the outback dust for the vines of the Clare Valley! 🍇🚴‍♂️

I gave the RedSands rig a rest and hopped on a bike to tackle 50 km of the historic Riesling Trail.

The Highlights:

The Riesling Trail: Winding through vineyards and golden paddocks, this trail follows an old 1918 railway line that was tragically destroyed by the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires and later reborn for cyclists. ✨

Sevenhill Cellars: Explored the oldest winery in the region, founded by Jesuit brothers in 1851 who were fleeing religious persecution in Europe. Originally planted just for sacramental altar wine, they've been winning awards since 1858! Followed it up with a great lunch at the Sevenhill Hotel. 🏛️🍷

The Pioneer Tree: Came across a gnarled, 400-year-old Gum tree where pioneer John Horrocks actually lived in 1839! Wildest part? The irises blooming beneath it today are descendants of the original bulbs he brought from England. 🌱🇬🇧

The perfect blend of world-class wine, cycling, and incredible pioneer history. 🥂

    • Rusted ruins and endless salt crusts—pushing further down the Oodnadatta Track! 🏜️🚐💨

I followed the ghost of the old railway line, navigating some rough, water-carved tracks left by recent heavy rains before the desert opened up into something spectacular.

The Highlights:

Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre: Australia's lowest point (17m below sea level) and its largest lake. Looking out over the shimmering white infinity of the salt crust, the desert sky created the perfect illusion of water. A deeply powerful landscape steeped in Aboriginal creation stories. 🤍✨

Marree: A historic crossroads town that changed its name from Hergott Springs during WWI. 📍📜

Outback Crossroads: Explored the remnants of Australia’s first-ever mosque, built by Afghan and Indian cameleers in the late 1800s, and saw how the 1883 railway hub transformed the cattle industry. 🐫🕌

Finished the day with a cold one at the historic Marree Hotel (est. 1883), surrounded by giant iron skeletons of trains slowly being reclaimed by the outback dust. 🚂🍺

    • Leaving the Red Centre behind and diving headfirst into South Australian history! 🏜️🚐💨

I pointed the RedSands rig south, crossed the NT/SA border, and left the bitumen behind at Marla to tackle the legendary Oodnadatta Track.

Track Highlights:

An Open-Air Museum: This iconic route follows an ancient Aboriginal trade path, later used for the Overland Telegraph and the "Old Ghan" railway line. The desert is beautifully littered with abandoned stations and historic ruins. 🛠️📜

The Pink Roadhouse: Made it to the world-famous pink hub in Oodnadatta! 🩷🤠

From "Angle Pole" to Oodnadatta: Learned that this town was originally a major hub for camel trains called "Angle Pole," named after a sharp, right-angled bend the caravans had to navigate. 🐫📍

"Goat Halt": Explored the historic 1890 railway station, which was the end of the line for the Old Ghan for decades and affectionately nicknamed for the local goats that used to hang out on the platforms. 🐐🚂

Driving through pages of history in the deep outback. Next stop: continuing down the track! ✨

    • A journey to the "Dead Centre" to see Uluru isn't just a trip—it’s a rite of passage. Looming over the desert horizon 335km southwest of Alice Springs, the sheer scale of this monolith takes your breath away. 🏜️✨

The Experience:

Sacred Ground: Deeply sacred to the Aṉangu people, the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park is a living cultural landscape. Walking the base reveals hidden springs, waterholes, and ancient rock art telling stories of the Dreamtime. 📜🎨

The Living Palette: Watching the sunset is pure magic. As the light shifts, the rock literally changes color before your eyes, shifting from a fiery orange to a deep, glowing violet. 🌅💜

Camel Trekking: Visited the camel farm in Yulara (the largest in Australia!) for a trek through the red dunes. Soaking in the desert majesty from the back of a camel is a wonderfully peaceful experience. 🐫🌾

A rare moment where you feel completely connected to the land. 🇦🇺❤️

    • Worth every bit of that 3:30 AM wake-up call! 🌅🎈

I took to the skies above Alice Springs in a hot air balloon to truly wrap my head around the vastness of the Outback.

The Highlights:

Desert Sunrise: Floating into the crisp morning air while it was still pitch black, then watching the sun break over the horizon. The MacDonnell Ranges absolutely glowed in shades of orange and purple. 🏔️✨

Silent Safari: Drifting silently over the spinifex plains, I even spotted a few wild kangaroos bounding across the red earth below. 🦘🌾

Aeronaut Tradition: After landing, we all pitched in to pack up the massive balloon before celebrating with a glass of champagne and snacks right in the middle of the desert. 🥂🍾

The ultimate "high" to start the day in the Red Centre!

    • From the coast to the red dust! 🌊➡️🏜️

I said goodbye to the ocean and pointed the RedSands rig inland, crossing through Charters Towers, Richmond, and Mount Isa before hitting the Northern Territory. I finally swung south onto the legendary Stuart Highway. 🚐💨

Outback Highlights:

Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles): A deeply sacred site where massive granite boulders balance on the earth. In Aboriginal tradition, these are the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent from the Dreamtime. It’s a powerful place that demands a quiet moment of respect. 🐍🪨

Alice Springs: The ultimate desert oasis and gateway to the Red Centre. Fun fact: Established in 1872 for the Overland Telegraph Line, it was named after a "spring" that was actually just a riverbed holding onto rainwater! 💧🌴

Sitting 1,300km from the nearest major city, I am officially in the geographical heart of Australia. 🇦🇺✨

    • Sun’s out, tropical north bound! ☀️🚐

I kept the momentum rolling north until I hit Airlie Beach, the ultimate gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. I wasn’t about to stay on dry land, so it was straight back underwater for a double-dive session! 🤿🐟

The Dive Report:

Fast Track: Love how close the reef is here—only a quick 30-minute boat ride out to the dive sites. 🚤💨

Under the Surface: A high tidal range meant the ocean was moving, capping visibility at about 10 meters. But after my murky 5m dive in Byron Bay, this felt like total luxury! 🌊✨

The Vibe: There is nothing quite like diving the Great Barrier Reef—it always feels like home. 🐠🪸

Next up: Do I trade the keys for a sailboat through the Whitsundays, or push the RedSands rig deeper into the tropical north? ⛵️🧭

    • Back to the true RedSands life—pure nature! 🚐🌿

I’ve set up camp at Habitat Noosa, tucked inside a 65-hectare national park on the edge of Lake Cootharaba. It’s the ultimate base for exploring the Noosa Everglades—one of only two everglades systems on Earth. 🐊✨

The Highlights:

The River of Mirrors: Jumped on an Eco Safari and glided through water so dark and still from tea tree oil that the reflection of the ancient forest is perfectly symmetrical. Like sailing through a kaleidoscope! 🌌🚣‍♂️

Biodiversity Haven: This ancient landscape is a powerhouse of wildlife, hosting a staggering 44% of Australia’s native bird species. 🦅🦜

Tea Tree Dip: Swapped the canoe for a swim in the glassy, tea tree-infused water. Absolute paradise for the skin! ☕️💧

If you ever need to hit the ultimate "reset" button, this is the place to do it. 🧘‍♂️

    • From the Gold Coast sands to the heights of Brisbane! 🏖️🏙️

The Highlights:

Gold Coast Trek: Stretched my legs with a massive beach walk from Miami Beach to Surfers Paradise. There’s nothing quite like walking on pristine sand right next to a mini-Manhattan skyline!

Brisbane's Roots: Explored the City Botanic Gardens and the Old Government House. It’s wild to think this modern capital started as the "Moreton Bay" convict colony back in 1824. 🏛️📜

The Story Bridge: Tackled the iconic 1940 bridge climb! Even with some moody grey weather, the panoramic views over the Brisbane River were spectacular. 🌉☁️

A short but sweet stop to watch the river city's history and modern energy come together.

    • Officially reached Byron Bay, the easternmost point of the Australian mainland! 🌊🏄‍♂️

From its 1960s longboarder roots to its iconic hippie soul, Byron is a place that’s evolved while keeping its laid-back pulse.

The Adventures:

Surfing: Caught some waves at Clarkes Beach and Seven Mile Beach. 🤙

Lake Ainsworth: Soaked in the famous "tea-stained" waters. The tannins from the paperbark trees are like a natural fountain of youth for your skin and hair! ☕️✨

Julian Rocks (The Nursery): Dove into this underwater metropolis. Despite 5m visibility, I came face-to-face with master-of-disguise Wobbegongs and colorful Nudibranchs. 🦈🐚

Even on a murky day, life under the surface at Byron feels like visiting another planet. 🪐
